Gregory Peck's Grandson To Play Spock In Star Trek: Discovery
Live long and prosper.
As the second season of Star Trek: Discovery looms there was one big question... who would take up the role (and pointy ears) of Spock.
Well it turns out the iconic role is going to a member of Hollywood royalty with Gregory Peck's grandson, Ethan Peck, being announced as joining the Discovery cast.
First played by Leonard Nimoy then later in the films by Zachary Quinto, Spock is one of the most iconic and lasting figures in the Star Trek universe.
Alex Kurtzman, Executive Producer of Discovery, confirmed the casting news at Comic-Con that Spock would be appearing in the second season after it was revealed that the series' lead Michael Burnham -- played by Sonequa Martin-Green -- was Spock's foster sister.
"Through 52 years of television and film, a parallel universe and a mirror universe, Mr. Spock remains the only member of the original bridge crew to span every era of Star Trek," Kurtzman said.
"We searched for months for an actor who would, like them, bring his own interpretation to the role. An actor who would, like them, effortlessly embody Spock’s greatest qualities, beyond obvious logic: empathy, intuition, compassion, confusion, and yearning.
"Ethan Peck walked into the room inhabiting all of these qualities, aware of his daunting responsibility to Leonard, Zack, and the fans, and ready to confront the challenge in the service of protecting and expanding on Spock’s legacy. In that spirit, we’re thrilled to welcome him to the family."
Peck has popped up in several series including Gossip Girl, 10 Things I Hate About You and Madam Secretary and was the face of Ferragamo in 2015.
The second season of Star Trek: Discovery is set to arrive in early 2019.
