Damien Thomlinson Has A Lot To Celebrate After His Australian Survivor Exit

"I hope I went because I was a threat. If you called me a liability during challenges... you weren’t watching."

This season of Australian Survivor: Champions Versus Contenders is shaping up to have some pretty fiery tribal councils already, with the third elimination seeing Damien Thomlinson handing over his torch and leaving the island.

"I wanted to see if there was still that fire in my belly," Damien told ten daily about his decision to give the show a shot, "But I also wanted to show handicapped people around Australia that anything is possible".

Though he was only there for a short time, Damien made a huge impression with audiences -- and a few of his tribe members -- absolutely fuming at the almost unanimous decision to vote him out.

"I didn't think Sam, Moana and Brian would make the play they did. I had no idea," Damien said, adding that when he walked into tribal council he could feel a shift in his tribe mates' attitudes.

During his final episode Damien opened up about what it's like to wear his prostheses, revealing that very few people had seen him with his legs off, and that he doesn't usually walk around outside in shorts.

"It was a growing experience in general, it's been nine and a half years since the injury and I don't usually walk outside in a pair of shorts. I thought [Survivor] is perfect, you can't wear jeans when you're out on an island."

"I found it helpful", the 36-year-old said, adding, "It was a bit sad that it was one of the reasons I got voted out".

Poker player Jackie managed to turn a lot of the tribe against Damien, using his legs to convince the other Champions to believe he would be a liability moving forward.

"That was tough... it was not something you could help. I didn't fail anything, I was voted out because I was considered a liability."

"I hope I went because I was a threat. If you called me a liability during challenges... you weren’t watching."

The World Series Poker player managed to sway the votes in her favour after two terrible performances in the challenges, Jackie knew her head was on the chopping block.

"It blew my mind, to put me up against Jackie in a running race I’d probably win," Damien said adding, "That’s the big thing coming from someone who can’t run... I was more baffled than anything".

"I thought people would see through why we were there, and I thought I was reasonably safe here. There wasn’t much more I could have done. When I saw people’s faces I was like she’s actually turned them. The crocodile tears have worked."

Still, despite leaving the competition a little too early for our liking, it isn't all bad news for Damien, the morning after his elimination aired he shared some very happy news on Instagram.

A silver lining indeed!
