Netflix To Drop 47 Comedy Specials On One Day
The line-up includes Joel Creasey, Nazeem Hussain, Urzila Carlson and Cal Wilson.
In the last few years Netflix has been investing in a surprising genre often overlooked when it comes to streaming: stand-up comedy.
The streaming giant has been hand-picking comedians from across the world and giving them their own hour-long specials, but more recently, Netflix has been toying with short-form stand-up.
Like The Standups -- a series that saw comedians do a half-hour set -- The Comedy Line Up is a recent release on Netflix featuring eight comedians each performing 15-minute sets. It's like the perfect comedy buffet for the binge-watch generation.
Now Netflix is ramping things up even more with the announcement that they plan to release 47 comedy specials on a single day.
Yup, filming at the Just for Laughs Festival in Montreal as well as Berlin, Amsterdam, Mumbai, Mexico City and São Paolo, the "stand-up comedy event series" will drop on the streaming platform in 2019, featuring half-hour sets from 47 comedians from across 13 regions, filmed in seven languages.
The comedians include some of our faves like Joel Creasey, Nazeem Hssain, Urzila Carlson, Cal Wilson, Chris D'Elia and Nicole Byer.
Netflix's vice president of original documentary and comedy, Lisa Nishiura said, "With this event, we’re creating a true comedy festival experience for our members where they can scour the globe from home to find some of the freshest voices in comedy".
The full line-up of comedians who'll be recorded at Just for Laughs Montreal are:
Two additional comedians to be announced
