Megadeth's Dave Mustaine Says He's '100 Percent' Free Of Cancer
Megadeth frontman Dave Mustaine has revealed less than a year after his initial diagnosis that he is now “100 percent” cancer-free.
Following his throat cancer diagnosis in June last year, Mustaine has shared the good news with fans during Megadeth's London show, where he explained how he had first come to discover he had cancer last year.
"About a year ago, we were working on our new album back in Franklin, Tennessee, and I started to feel some pain. I went to the doctor and he said, ‘Dave, you have cancer.' And I went, 'F**k! I have cancer.' And I was so shocked," he told the crowd.
Mustaine continued, "At first, I thought, 'Am I afraid?' And then I said, 'No. I'm f**king pissed.'
"We stopped the record – we stopped everything. I went into treatment for cancer."
Determined to beat the disease, the frontman underwent a gruelling 51 sessions of radiation treatments as well as nine chemotherapy treatments. He added that it was his belief in the power of prayer that kept him going throughout the ordeal.
“I know a lot of you guys know that I pray,” he told the crowd. “I say that in [Megadeth’s] ‘Peace Sells’. I pray every day. I say that in the song. I’ve said it since the second record," he said.
"But I thought about you guys every day, too. And I thought about my family. And I got this power from you guys. And I just kept thinking about it. And on October 16th, I went to go see the doctor, and he said, ‘You’re 100 percent free of cancer',” he explained.
Following the good news, fans, friends fellow musos took to social media to congratulate Mustaine on beating the disease, including fellow rocker Slash.
Megadeath released its latest album, "Warheads on Foreheads", in 2019.
