Tones And I Delivers Powerful Speech After ARIAs Mixup

Tones and I accepted her first ARIA award for Best Independent Release -- powering on after a slight hiccup during the ceremony.

Presenters Veronica and Lewis had their own 'La La Land/Moonlight' Oscars mixup moment when they mistakenly read out legendary Aussie singer-songwriter Paul Kelly as the winner of the category.

But the gaffe didn't rattle Tones at all, who powered on with a speech she'd prepared earlier, ahead of awards night where she's been nominated for a whopping eight gongs.

The 'Dance Monkey' star was busking in Byron Bay just six months ago -- and thanked everyone who had believed in her along the way, and explained that she's always unashamedly been her unique self.

“My two goals this year were to get played on Triple J one time and sell out a 200 capacity venue," the singer said.

"I never thought I would have the number one song in the world.”
