Lil Nas X Reveals He Used To Pray That Being Gay 'Was A Phase'

During a raw interview with Gayle King for CBS 'This Morning', Lil Nas X opened up about his journey to coming out as gay.

The 20-year-old, whose real name is Montero Lamar Hill, got candid about coming to terms with his sexuality, revealing to King in a preview that as a teen he used to pray that being gay was just a phase.

"Especially during my teenage years, I would just pray, pray and pray," he said. When King asked what he prayed for, he responded, "That it was a phase."

Speaking about his public announcement that he was gay, which came in the form of a tweet during Pride Month earlier this year, the 'Old Town Road' singer admitted his fame made it easier for him to come out as opposed to those who don't have a large platform.

"Me being in this position, it's easy for me," he said. "But some little boy 10 miles from here, it's not gonna be good for him."

Speaking about public figures coming out, Lil Nas X said, "I think it's gonna always help", however, he added that "we still have a long way to go".

"It's not like everybody is messing with me now, 'cause of course somebody who's listening to me in school right now, it's like, 'You're gay, cause you're listening to him.'" he said,

He added, "There's still a lot to be done, of course. But I do believe it's helping."
