'A Sad Day For Music': Ed Sheeran Fans Are Freaking Out Over Retirement Rumours
This week, multiple media reports claimed that Ed Sheeran had announced his retirement at the ripe old age of 28.
After wrapping up his two-year-long 'Divide' tour in Ipswich, Sheeran reportedly told the crowd that there was something "very bittersweet" about the last gig of the epic journey.
"I love that you guys are here and we are ending it in Ipswich," he said, adding that "this is my last gig for probably 18 months".
After touring 46 countries, 175 cities and playing 260 shows in the space of two years it seems only fair that Ed gets to take a break from singing "Shape Of You" to stadium crowds around the world nearly every single night.
Yet multiple publications in the UK, including the Sun and the Mirror, reported that he was putting his feet up to retire before the age of 30 and spend more time with his wife, Cherry Seaborn.
Ed has now hit out at the way in which his stage banter was deliberately misinterpreted and set the record straight with a message on his Instagram stories.
"I'm not bloody retiring either, press are being overly dramatic," he said.
"I'm having 18 months off to make another album and hang out with my cats," Sheeran added.
The wild reports should have at least read 'Ed Sheeran Retires To Become Better Cat Dad' but the news didn't stop fans bemoaning the possibility that Ed was about to disappear forever and become a hermit.
And for some reason, this fan was very cranky with Billy ~eyelash~ fans for playing a part in the musical downfall.
An 18-month break is a pretty standard time to take off after a world tour -- especially considering he's going to be writing and recording brand new music during that time.
We just hope he's getting some quality time with his cats!
