WATCH: Broadway Musical Cast Serenade Disappointed Audience After NYC Blackout

Several New York districts were affected by blackouts, resulting in some unconventional performances.

What has been reported as a "transformer explosion and fire" or a "manhole explosion" meant Hell's Kitchen, the Upper West Side and Theatre District have all been experiencing blackouts.

The blackouts obviously forced shows to be cancelled, but rather than simply allowing folks to go home disappointed, many musicals had other ideas.

Several of the casts of musicals affected like 'Hadestown', 'Waitress' and 'Come From Away' all decided to take things in their stride, and bring their performances to the street.

Surreal videos of performers belting out the hits from their shows in the middle of busy streets flooded with people began to emerge on social media.

The blackouts also affected Jennifer Lopez's show at Madison Square Garden, forcing the show to be evacuated.

Lopez posted a message on social media saying she was "devastated and heartbroken right now" following the evacuation, promising to make it up to her fans.

As of Saturday evening local time, the power began to return to the city.
