The New Taylor Swift Dragged The Old Taylor To Hell While On 'Ellen'
Hasn't Taylor Swift ever been told to not speak ill of the dead?!
With the 'reputation' era over and done with, Taylor Swift sat down with Ellen DeGeneres for her first televised interview in over two years.
With Taylor back in full promo mode after not doing any publicity throughout the 'reputation' era, the singer chatted happily about her new single "ME!", which features Brendon Urie of Panic! At The Disco, as well as shaving her legs, her new kitten, the Easter eggs that drive her Swifties to the brink of madness and tons more.
But first up, let's address the self-drag. While answering a series of 'burning questions', Ellen asked Tay what the most rebellious thing she'd ever done was.
"Probably when I like, put Joe Jonas on blast on your show?" she said. "That was too much! That was too much!"
She continued: "I was 18... yeah. We laugh about it now, but that was some... just... mouthy, teenage stuff."
Taylor didn't reveal much about her next single or upcoming album, saying, "oh, um... I can't tell you that! That's crazy!" but she did share that she'd left some Easter eggs WITHIN her appearance on 'Ellen' for fans to find and decipher.
Tay went on to explain that she loves leaving clues hinting at what's to come as a way for fans to engage with her music and videos on another level -- even if they don't always get it right.
"I like to plant Easter eggs in a video that will be like, a lyric from unreleased music, or like a little hint or a little wink to what's coming in the future," she said. "It's just been really fun to expand the musical process beyond just listening to a song. I also want people to be watching the music video like 'what's that thing in the background?' and 'what's that song playing under there?' and 'is there a reason she said that in French?'"
Although her fans are "excellent" at figuring out her clues, she said there was one theory in particular that was way off.
"There were some fans that thought I had something to do with 'Avengers: Endgame'," she said, "Because we had the single coming out the same day and I have a song that was called 'End Game' so they were like 'Oh my God, she's gonna defeat Thanos, and... I let everyone down," she laughed.
In other segments, the pair chatted about whether she washes her legs in the shower -- a debate that originated in season three of 'You're The Worst'.
"I do, 'coz when you shave your legs, the shaving cream is like soap, right?" she mused. "So that counts, I'm on the right side of history, then."
"Unless you're not shaving, and then you're not washing," replied Ellen, prompting Taylor to reveal that she shaves her legs every day.
"You must be really hairy," Ellen deadpanned.
They also discussed their love for cats -- and Taylor's newly adopted kitten Benjamin Button, who came into her life via the 'ME!' video, as well as Taylor's role in the upcoming 'Cats' film.
"We all went to cat school," she said. "You have no idea, all my dreams came true on the set of this film. They were like, 'you can come to set as much as you want', and I ended up being there every day for four months. They were like 'oh, Taylor's doing cat school, again. She's still here, she's still doing cat school!'"
So what's cat school like?
"You crawl around on the floor and pretend to be a cat," Taylor explained. So... pretty much what it sounds like, then!
