Idris Elba Made His Coachella Debut And It Went Off

Is there anything this man can't do?

Idris Elba -- aka PEOPLE's Sexiest Man Alive -- proved he's not just a pretty face (and a great actor) when he made his Coachella debut with a two-hour DJ set that had everyone tearing up the DF during the festival's first weekend.

Joined by his 17-year-old daughter Isan and his fiancée Sabrina Dhowre, the 46-year-old had punters pleasantly surprised as he dropped his headlining set on day two of the festival, with some even claiming it was "the best thing [they'd] seen all weekend."

"Between Idris Elba throwing down a wild Coachella set, Tiger winning his first event in 11 years, and the final season of GoT starting tonight, I'm honestly surprised Twitter didn't completely break down," one Twitter user wrote.

Another added, "@idriselba hands down had the best set in YUMA tent history #Legend."

While he's most recognised for his roles on The Wire and Luther, the star revealed that DJing had been a huge passion of his long before he started acting, with Elba saying his love for music dated back to when he was a child.

“I’ve got this picture of me where I’m four years old and I’m holding Marvin Gaye’s Let’s Get It On album cover,” he told Rolling Stone last month.

"I guess that was me wanting to DJ. My dad would let me stare at his record player but not let me touch it. But then growing up in my mum and dad’s house, there was lots of parties, and my dad finally allowed me to DJ. I was probably nine or 10. It was the disco era, so I was playing things like ‘Ring My Bell.'”

"I loved the idea of talking about songs, in between songs, and playing the next one," he continued, adding, "By the time I had an awareness that this could be a job, I definitely wanted to do that."

The British actor began DJing at weddings and christenings in London during his teen years, before picking up various gigs in New York in the '90s, and just last year he kicked off his residency at a nightclub called Lío on the in Ibiza.

Ahead of the festival, the star joked about how fans tend to be shocked upon discovering his musical prowess.

“The reaction to me deejaying at Coachella was, ‘What?’ It was on CNN like, ‘Idris Elba’s deejaying at Coachella this year and it’s going to be amazing!’ I’m like, ‘Yeah, if you like my kind of music,’ ” he said.

“Like, really famous musicians are like, ‘Oh I’m going to listen to him deejaying.’ I’m like, wait a second. I play really hard, cerebral tech. One of the things that drives me as a deejay is that I want people to walk away and go, ‘I expected him to be shit. He was alright'.”

Elba will again play a set on Saturday the 20th of April for Coachella's second and final week.
