Avicii's Family Has Launched A Mental Health Foundation In His Memory
The family of Tim Bergling -- best known by his stage name, Avicii -- has announced they'll launch a charity in his memory.
The Tim Bergling Foundation “will initially focus on supporting people and organisations working in the field of mental illness and suicide prevention,” according to a statement provided to Variety.
The foundation will also "be active" in the fields of climate change, development assistance, nature conservation and endangered species, the site reported.
“Tim wanted to make a difference,” the Bergling family wrote of Avicii.
“Starting a foundation in his name is our way to honour his memory and continue to act in his spirit," they added.
According to Billboard, Avicii gave millions of dollars in charitable donations throughout his successful career. He reportedly donated to RED, a charity that fights against HIV/AIDS, and a Swedish organisation that provides food to children in Sub-Saharan Africa, Radiohjalpen.
The Tim Bergling Foundation will officially launch on April 20 -- one year after Bergling died in Muscat, Oman in an apparent suicide. Avicii's death came two years after the DJ retired from touring, citing health reasons.
“When he stopped touring, he wanted to find a balance in life to be happy and be able to do what he loved most -- music,” the Bergling family wrote after news broke of the 28-year-old's death last year.
