R Kelly Responds To Sexual Abuse Allegations With 19-Minute Song
In the song, titled 'I Admit', Kelly responds to claims he runs a sex cult, and the ongoing accusations that he has abused women.
Disgraced singer R. Kelly has uploaded a 19-minute song on Soundcloud this week where he attempts to respond to the litany of allegations of sexual assault and abuse that has dogged the 51-year-old for years.
The song, titled 'I Admit' is less of an admission of any guilt or wrongdoing and more of a chronicling of what Kelly sees as his legacy, and his minor errors and the ways the world hasn't respected his legacy.
"I admit that I couldn't read the teleprompter / When the Grammy's asked me to present."
In the rambling song, Kelly alleges that he was sexually abused when he was a child, then went on to address the claims that he runs a sex cult which came to light after BuzzFeed published an investigation last year interviewing the parents of young girls they claimed were being kept against their will.
Kelly not only addressed the rumours but also the reporter, Jim DeRogatis:
"To Jim DeRogatis, whatever your name is / You been tryna destroy me for 25 whole years / Writin' the same stories over and over against /Off my name, you done went and made yourself a career / But guess what? I pray for you and family, and all my other enemies / I'm not gonna let y'all steal my joy, I'm just gon' keep on doin' me / Now I don't know what else to say except, I'm so falsely accused / Tell me how can you judge when you've never walked in my shoes."
Kelly also addressed being removed from curated playlists on Spotify -- despite the streaming service's move actually resulting in a bump in weekly streams for the singer.
The campaign responsible for pressuring spotify, #MuteRKelly, also got a mention, with Kelly singing:
"Yeah, go ahead and stone me, point your finger at me / Turn the world against me, but only God can mute me."
In May Kelly faced more allegations from a woman who, in a suit filed against him, claimed Kelly mentally, physically and verbally abused her during a year-long relationship. The woman was 19 at the time of the relationship and also claims Kelly "wilfully, deliberately and maliciously" infected her with herpes.
One thing's for sure, this is probably the first song to ask:
"What's the definition of a cult? / Whats the definition of a sex slave? Go to the dictionary, look it up / Let me know, I'll be here waiting."
But like, there are plenty of better ways to spend your time.
