WATCH: The First Trailer For 'Top Gun: Maverick' Is Finally Here
The action star made a surprise appearance at San Diego Comic-Con on Thursday to promote the flick.
During Paramount Pictures’ 'Terminator: Dark Fate' panel, Tom Cruise shocked visitors with an unscheduled appearance to hype the sequel to the 1986 action flick 'Top Gun'.
"You all have asked for many, many years... I travel around the world, people say, why don't you do another one, when are you are going to do another one?" he told the excited crowd.
"Thirty-four years you guys have been very patient with me, and I felt it was my responsibility to finally really deliver for you."
He added, “To me, ‘Top Gun’ is about competition.”
Introducing the trailer for the highly-anticipated film, we learn that 'Maverick' takes place 34 years after the events of the OG movie, where Pete “Maverick” Mitchell is now a flight instructor at the Topgun, the Navy’s Fighter Weapons School at Naval Air Station Miramar.
While plot details are yet to be revealed, there's no shortage of action throughout the clip, with Cruise revealing that shots of fighter jets launching off aircraft carriers were "all real" as they worked closely with US Navy officials.
"I really wanted to give you all an experience of what it is to be inside that aircraft... It's a love letter to aviation," Cruise said.
Val Kilmer is set to reprise his role as Tom “Iceman” in the sequel. Jon Hamm, Harris, Lewis Pullman, Charles Parnell, Jay Ellis, Bashir Salahuddin, Danny Ramirez and Monica Barbaro are also set to star in the film.
The original film was a blockbuster success, raking in more than $350 million worldwide on a $15 million budget.
