Five Actors Who Could Play Prince Eric Just As Well As Harry Styles
The former One Direction star has reportedly rejected the role of Prince Eric in Disney's live-action revival of 'The Little Mermaid'.
After reportedly missing out on the role of Elvis Presley in Baz Luhrmann's forthcoming biopic film to rising star Austin Butler, Harry Styles was revealed to be in the running to play another iconic character -- Prince Eric in 'The Little Mermaid'.
While social media had been abuzz with whispers that 'Dunkirk' star was set to take on the iconic role, which would see him join a star-studded cast including Halle Bailey, it wasn't to be, with reports emerging that the former One Direction singer had, in fact, turned down the role.
While our dreams of Harry playing a prince seem to be crushed (for now), here are a few other actors we think could nail the character just as well.
Following the news he would be playing the role of John Ambrose McClaren in the upcoming 'To All The Boys I’ve Loved Before' sequel, Fisher has emerged at the top of fans’ wishlist to play the hunky prince.
Given he has a background in singing and musicals -- having starred in both 'Rent! Live' and 'Grease: Live' -- we think he'd perfectly complement to the also vocally talented Halle Bailey, who is set to play Ariel.
Being every teen girl's imaginary boyfriend back in his 'High School Musical' days, who better to portray a handsome prince than Zac Efron?!
Having previously starred in the HSM franchise as well as the musical film 'Hairspray' we know he can sing, plus, he looks really, really good with his shirt off... which doesn't actually have any relevance to the role whatsoever, but yeah, bonus points for that!!
You cannot look at that structurally perfect face and tell me that 'Riverdale' star Charles Milton isn't destined to play a Disney Prince. I mean, he could cut our faces with that jawline and we'd probably thank him, tbh.
And it's not just us -- many of Melton's fans believed that he and girlfriend/'Riverdale' co-star Camila Mendes (Prince Charles and Camilla Duchess of Cornwall who?) would make a grand royal couple for the flick.
Another popular choice according to Twitter is singer Shawn Mendes who, like Harry, was also reportedly in the running for the role of Elvis (do they just ship the same batch of guys around to castings together or???).
Fans are so convinced the Canadian crooner should play the prince that there's an entire thread dedicated to pointing out their likeness to one another.
Jimin from BTS
Another hypothetical casting choice spreading like wildfire over Twitter is that Jimin -- a member of the world's biggest K-pop band, BTS -- would be the perfect option to play Prince Eric.
Given that he encompasses a bit of a boyish charm and already has millions of adoring fans across the globe, it's certainly not a bad idea! Plus, these comparisons by Twitter users have us convinced he's an IRL Prince Eric as it is.
The latest adaptation will be directed by Rob Marshall, with production on the project set to begin in 2020.
