Taron Egerton Drunkenly Stole From Elton John's Kitchen

The actor, who plays icon Elton John in the biopic 'Rocketman', spoke about his close friendship with the singer ahead of the film's release.

Speaking at Cannes Film Festival on Friday, 'Rocketman' star Taron Egerton shared an anecdote about the time he stayed at John's house while getting to know him ahead portraying the singer on the big screen.

According to Egerton, after a couple of drinks, he found himself ravenous at 3 am and raided the music legend's kitchen for food.

"David [Elton's husband] and Elton allowed me into their lives, and my girlfriend and I went to stay with them for a few days just before we started filming," he said.

"We got quite drunk one night at theirs, and their head of security caught me stealing from his kitchen at 3 in the morning."

The 29-year-old added that, upon getting to know the 72-year-old, the singer shared "absolutely everything" about his life with the actor.

“He’s the kindest, most interesting, warm man,” Egerton said. “My great privilege is that I was able to spend a lot of time with him and talk to him about anything. You really can ask him anything. He’s so much fun. He’ll tell you everything.”

After debuting the film at Cannes Film Festival on Thursday, both John and Egerton hit the stage to perform a surprise duet rendition of "Rocketman", with John telling the crowd:

"This has been a very emotional night for me... Even if the movie doesn’t make one penny at the box office, which will kill Jim Gianopulos, it is the movie I wanted to make."

'Rocketman' hits Australian cinemas Thursday, May 30th.
