Disney Announces Three New 'Star Wars' Movies
Get excited 'Star Wars' fans, cos you're about to get three new movies set in that galaxy far, far away.
Big news today for 'Star Wars' fans, Disney has announced the schedule for three new films.
Following the release of 'The Rise Of Skywalker' later this year, the next films from the franchise are set to be released in December 2022, 2024 and 2026, with Disney planning to release each film on the pre-Christmas weekend of each respective year.
Disney boss Bob Iger previously said that the franchise would be going on a hiatus after the release of 'The Rise of Skywalker'.
"We have not announced any specific plans for movies thereafter," he said.
"There are movies in development, but we have not announced them. We will take a pause, sometime, and reset because the Skywalker saga comes to an end with this ninth movie. There will be other Stars Wars movies, but there will be a bit of a hiatus," he said at the time.
While no details on the upcoming flicks have been announced as of yet, it's expected to be a brand new storyline to that of 'The Rise of Skywalker'.
"We are looking at the next saga. We are not just looking at another trilogy, we're really looking at the next 10 years or more," Lucasfilm head Kathleen Kennedy told The Hollywood Reporter.
'The Last Jedi' director Rian Johnson and 'Game Of Thrones' executive producers David Benioff and D.B. Weiss have apparently both signed on to create their own series of original Star Wars films, which could potentially fit the bill for the new trilogy.
