First Trailer For Sonic The Hedgehog Movie Is... Something

Who asked for this? Did you ask for this? We did not ask for this.

He's one of the most iconic video game characters in history, and while Sonic has graced the small screen zooming around and picking up rings and running shuttle loops, today we saw a whole different side of Sonic the Hedgehog.

To be clear, we finally found out Sonic has a mouth full of... weird teeth.

Yes, since the news that there would be a live-action Sonic movie, fans have been divided with the character design, casting news and -- most recently -- news of Sonic's wholeass mouth of teeth.

The official trailer, released on Wednesday, shows Sonic running around to "Gangsters Paradise" for some godforsaken reason, and introduces audiences (reluctantly) to characters like James Marsden, a handsome sheriff who befriends Sonic for some reason, and Jim Carrey as Dr Robotnik an insane scientist who wants to take over the world.

Honestly, Jim Carrey as Dr Robotnik, if you want to take over a world that includes talking, electric, malting hedgehogs you go right the hell ahead.

Also, there's something about Sonic having to collect his rings as a plot point but honestly, at this stage what's even the point in asking?

Based on the internet's reactions to every release for the Sonic film so far -- from the teaser poster to the official posters and now the official trailer -- every step of the way fans have wanted to throw this back into the hellfire from whence it came. And yet, the studio marches on.

Sonic the Hedgehog will race into cinemas January 9, 2020, so you'll have to wait a little longer until this terrifying monstrosity hits the big screen, but we're sure it'll definitely be worth it.
