Devoted 'Nancy Drew' Fans Divided Over New Film Trailer

Produced by Ellen DeGeneres, the movie is based on Carolyn Keene's 1930 book 'Nancy Drew and the Hidden Staircase'.

The popular fictional teen sleuth is coming back to the big screen with Nancy Drew and the Hidden Staircase.

The new trailer for the mystery drama shows Nancy Drew -- played by IT's Sophia Lillis -- investigating a haunted house in her "nowhere" small town.

Nancy Drew and the Hidden Staircase's teaser premiered on social media by the film's producer Ellen DeGeneres.

Devoted fans of the book series were left divided by the movie's sneak peek, which is set to debut in the U.S. on March 15.

The Nancy Drew book series was ghostwritten by a number of authors under the pseudonym, Carolyn Keene.

Notable women including Hillary Clinton, Sonia Sotomayor and Laura Bush have cited Nancy Drew as having a big influence on them.

The beloved character is popular worldwide, with at least 80 million copies of the books sold that have been translated into over 45 languages.

Emma Roberts played the character in the 2007 film of the same name, while the first film based on the novels dates back to 1939's Nancy Drew... Reporter.

An Australian release date for the film is yet to be announced.
