These 'Home Alone' Fan Theories Are Wild And Actually Kinda Believable

Prepare to have your childhood ruined!

It's the Chrissy classic that everyone loves -- the story of a rambunctious kid who's accidentally left behind as his whole family head off for the holidays, but over the years, fans have noticed certain things and are adamant that something is amiss within the McCallister clan.

I mean, the fact that they left their actual kid behind to defend himself from the local burglars is your first red flag tbh -- but there's a whole bunch of fan theories floating around, some sounding pretty legit, while others are just plain batsh*t.

Join us as we head down the rabbit hole and explore the dark secrets of this SO-CALLED family flick, but be warned, you'll likely come out with more questions than answers...

Peter McCallister Is a Criminal

One Reddit user called cubanesis came up with a whole bunch of reasons why he believes Kevin's dad may have mob ties -- and they sound pretty spot on tbh.

"First, the very first time we see Peter is when Harry is dressed as a cop scoping the place out. Peter is WAY defensive in this interaction. All Harry does is ask if he's the owner of the house and Peter jumps straight to 'Am I in some kind of trouble officer?'. The look in his face is on edge the whole time he's talking to Harry," they said.

"We never find out what he does," they continued. "They don't mention where he works, or his background, or anything. Now in the book adaptation of the movie they say something about him being in "business". That's pretty vague. But Peter makes enough money to have a wife that doesn't work and like 5 kids. He also has a house that is worth like 1.5 million."

To add further credibility to this theory is the fact that, according to Reddit user FatJimmyWillis, that "IMDB claims that in the original script, the uncle was the mastermind of the robbery," as in this guy:

Who's the little jerk now?!

Kevin Grew Up to Be the Killer From Saw

Another crazy/amazing theory from Reddit, the thread alleges that due to Kevin constantly being taunted by his own family, along with being left behind TWICE, later in his life he turned into a homicidal serial killer named Jigsaw.

Sounds far-fetched BUT think about it --  he single-handedly injures two robbers with his crafty traps set throughout the house. That's a red flag if we've ever seen one. Plus, he doesn't seem to care that he could very well kill the pair, like, he literally sets one of them on fire, smacks them both in the head with a paint can, makes one step on a nail that goes through his foot, and DROPS FOUR BRICKS ON MARV'S HEAD.

Sorry, but if I'm dropping FOUR bricks (even one?) on someone's head, I'm aiming to kill them. Kevin knows this -- he's just out for blood because he's a little sociopath that grew up to be a sadistic murderer. Case closed!

Kevin is A Poltergeist

A writer for The Daily Beast shared this theory back in 2017. Basically, it suggests that Kevin is actually a ghost, forced to roam the McCallister household. But, like Bruce Willis' character in The Sixth Sense, he doesn't know that he's dead.

It goes on the theorise that because Kevin the ghost is so fkn annoying, leaving his toy cars for everyone to injure themselves and whatnot, the McCallisters head to Paris for Christmas because they hate him and want a few weeks of peace.

The theory also suggests that the reason Kevin fears both the attic and the basement, is because they serve as gateways to heaven or hell.

Also, Kevin's mum is legit the only one who has a normal reaction to remembering that they left their 8--year-old child (poltergeist) alone as they fly to a different country.

Gus Polinski is the Devil

Played by the late John Candy, Gus aka the Polka King Of The Midwest offers Kate McCallister a lift in his truck along with the rest of his band.

But before this -- being desperate to get home to her son -- she says that she'd give up everything she owns to get home to her son and eventually says, "I'd sell my soul to the devil himself."

Hearing this, Gus jumps in, saying, "allow me to introduce myself," which is almost exactly the first line from The Rolling Stone's "Sympathy for the Devil."

Reddit user drewgarr concocted the theory and speculated that Gus is actually Satan in disguise and that he offers to get Kate home in return for her immortal soul. Fun!

Old Man Marley is Actually a Time Traveler

Not only has it been suggested that old man Marley is a time traveller, but some viewers believe he's actually Kevin from the future who has gone back in time to change the past. Like Terminator!

There's a whole discussion about it on Reddit (of course), which talks about divergent timelines, and it's honestly so wild. Like, there's a whole story about Future Kevin send his wife and son back to the '80s or something??

Also, they suggest that in one timeline, Kevin answers the door to the cops and leaves with them, leading the Wet Bandits to rob the house, which soon sets off a chain of reactions that leads to the McCallister family being in shambles and the parents divorcing.
