Taron Egerton Is Unrecognisable In Elton John Biopic
It may be a long, long time 'till touchdown brings him round again but the first footage from 'Rocketman' sees Taron Egerton giving us his Elton John best.
The film, which is less of a biopic and more of a "fantasy musical", according to Egerton, follows the rise to stardom of Sir Elton John, and like the brief clip describes: "It's going to be a wild ride".
Rocketman also stars Jamie Bell as Bernie Taupin -- John's writing partner of more than 40-years -- as well as Richard Madden, Gemma Jones and Bryce Dallas Howard. Egerton is also working once again with director Dexter Fletcher who directed the young star in Eddie the Eagle alongside Hugh Jackman.
Fletcher is also working on Bohemian Rhapsody, the biopic of fellow rock legend, Freddie Mercury. Both films have come under criticism for casting straight actors to play queer icons, however, in the case of Rocketman, John and his partner David Furnish are producing the film.
The film is described as an "uncensored" story of John's "breakthrough years", with Egerton telling Collider, "It’s actually his songs used to express important beats in his life at emotional moments. He’s not the only character that sings".
The actor also revealed that the film wouldn't rely on lip syncing saying, "I will always be singing on set. No miming. I’m just not interested in doing it that way."
Egerton and John aren't strangers to each other with the iconic musician featuring heavily in Kingsman: The Golden Circle as a feathered, foul-mouthed version himself.
Rocketman will fly into cinemas May 2019.
