Elizabeth Banks Finds Her Trio For Charlie's Angels Reboot
Where's the follow-up to the iconic movies from the early '00s though?
Good morning, Angels.
After YEARS of rumours the long-awaited Charlie's Angels reboot looks like it has finally found its cast.
"Do you mean Lucy Liu, Cameron Diaz and Drew Barrymore signed up to reprise their iconic roles?" I hear you ask, and look... honestly same, but no -- apparently not.
The reboot is being helmed by Elizabeth Banks, who also plans to star in the film as Bosley, Charlie's right-hand. Banks will be joined by Kristen Stewart, Naomi Scott and Ella Balinska.
You've obviously heard of Kristen Stewart who rose to fame through the Twilight series and whose relationship with co-star Robert Pattinson inspired some of the most iconic Trump tweets of all time.
This also marks a reunion for Naomi Scott, after starring alongside Banks in the Power Rangers live-action film (don't roll your eyes, watching Elizabeth Banks eat a doughnut before fighting the Power Rangers was a LOT of fun!!!) as well as starring in the series Terra Nova and the incredible Disney Channel original Lemonade Mouth.
Most notably, Scott made news when she was cast as Princess Jasmine in Disney's live-action remake of Aladdin.
Rounding out the trio is Ella Balinska, who is reportedly stepping in to the role Lupita Nyong'o was circling for a while. Balinska has been around in a few small films as well as starring on both Casualty and Midsomer Murders.
The reboot will focus on this new generation of Angels as the "Townsend Agency" has gone global, with teams around the world. This film focuses on just one of those teams.
The series first hit the big screen with the Liu, Diaz and Barrymore trio in 2000 with the sequel, Charlie's Angels: Full Throttle, following in 2003.
"Charlie’s Angels,’ for me, is one of the original brands to celebrate the empowered woman since its debut in the ’70s," Banks said -- who is not only starring and directing but also writing the film alongside Jay Basu, as well as producing the film.
"This film honours the legacy of Charles Townsend and his agency while introducing a new era of modern and global Angels," Banks said.
"I couldn’t be more excited to work with Kristen, Naomi and Ella to bring this chapter to fans around the world."
The film is set to release in September 2019, so you've still got time to perfect your Angels pose.
