Ricky Gervais And The Internet Are Mourning The Death Of His Beloved Cat Ollie
Ricky Gervais has revealed his heartbreak over the loss of his feline friend, Ollie, who died at the age of 16.
The comedian, 56, shared the sad news to social media earlier today, which was met with an outpouring of condolences from fans, who regularly witnessed the Burmese among Gervais' Instagram photos.
"Our hearts break for you. Ollie touched so many people and brightened our days with every photo. She will be greatly missed. Sending all of our love and comfort to your family," the official PETA Twitter account wrote.
Another fan on Twitter added, "Such sad news. I am amazed at the love that people are sharing for them. What a special kitty she is, we are lucky to have had the opportunity to know her and share her life with us."
Other fans posted tributes to the popular cat -- including photographs, videos and paintings -- including a photograph showing the first time Gervais met his four-legged friend.
Following the influx of well wishes, Gervais thanks, friends, family and fans for all their kind words, commenting on Instagram saying:
"A heartfelt thank you for all your lovely tributes to Ollie. I can't quite bring myself to respond at the moment, but your kindness is very much appreciated."
Gervais' longtime partner Jane Fallon also mourned the loss of their fur baby over social media.
"I have awful news," she wrote on Twitter. "My smart, funny, feisty, beautiful sidekick of the last 16 & a half years @myleftfang has passed away after a sudden downturn in her health at the weekend. My heart is broken in two. I have no idea what I’m going to do without her by my side. #Ollie"
Ollie had been a gift to Gervais from chat show host Jonathan Ross, who surprised the actor with the kitten live on the air in 2003.
