Harry Styles Opens Up About Being Robbed At Knifepoint On Valentine's Day
Speaking to Howard Stern, Harry Styles spoke for the first time about being accosted by robbers while walking home.
The singer went into a detailed account for the first time about what went down in February -- and clarifying he was actually robbed by several people and not just one, as was reported at the time.
"Yes, I was robbed on Valentine's Day," he said.
"That's what you get for being single these days," he joked, adding that it happened five minutes from his house. "I kind of see this group of guys who got their hoods up and their faces covered. I was like, 'That's a bit weird.'"
Despite turning off his music and crossing the road, the men continued to follow him.
"I'm like, 'Oh, f--k's sake, I think I'm about to get robbed,'" he said. After one of the men asked him if he smoked weed, the guy asked what Styles did have on him -- before telling Harry to "Stop f--king around".
After seeing that the group was armed with weapons, he gave them cash -- however it was when they asked for his phone, which contained his contact list, music videos, unreleased song lyrics and other personal information, that he considered just throwing it away rather than handing it over to the assailants.
"And then the guy's like, 'Unlock your phone', and the other one pulls his shirt up and he's got a knife sticking in his pants," he recalled, adding that he responded, "Mate, I can't".
He added, There's a little pond behind them and I thought I'd throw it in the pond and be like, 'Neither of us can have it'."
After telling him he had 10 seconds to hand over the phone, it was then that it was then he saw "an opportunity" and decided to run.
“I ran into the road and I tried to stop a car,” he recounted. “Obviously if a mad man runs into the road and tries to get in your car you’re not gonna let them in, so they don’t let me in.
"I just sprinted, but usually when I'm out walking I'm wearing running stuff," he said. "This was the one time I was like wearing corduroy flares and shoes."
However, the scary encounter hasn't stopped the Brit from hitting the streets at night.
"I went walking again the next day because I didn't want it to stop me walking," he said. "I walk a lot of nights when I'm home because I really like it."
