Revealed: Kobe Bryant's Final Text Messages Before Fatal Helicopter Crash
Los Angeles Lakers general manager Rob Pelinka revealed his last text message from Kobe Bryant during his emotional speech at a public memorial for the basketball star and his 13-year-old daughter Gianna.
One of many to pay an emotional tribute to the NBA great, Pelinka opened up about his final correspondence with Kobe -- which happened to be just minutes before the sportsman's chopper crashed in California, killing everyone on board.
Pelinka said Kobe had reached out, looking for a baseball agent to help the daughter of one of his friends.
"I grabbed my phone and text Kobe back that I had seen the baseball agent at a Lakers game just the other night and was happy to help him with whatever he wanted,” Pelinka explained.
“It was now just past 9:30. Kobe texted back explaining his desire to help a friend of his secure a baseball agency internship for one of his young daughters.
Kobe vouched for the girl’s character, intellect and work ethic. He clearly wanted to champion a bright future for her,” he continued.
“I text Kobe right back and said I would put a plan in motion to help get that done,” the executive said. “A handful of minutes later, Kobe and Gianna and seven other beautiful souls ascended into heaven. Kobe had been texting me from the helicopter.”
Pelinka added, “Kobe’s last human act was heroic. He wanted to use his platform to bless and shape a young girl’s future. Hasn’t Kobe done that for all of us?”
Vanessa Bryant Sues For Wrongful Death Ahead Of Devastating Memorial For Kobe and Gianna
Kobe Bryant's widow Vanessa has filed a wrongful death suit against the company responsible for a helicopter that crashed last month, killing the basketball great, their daughter Gianna, and several others.
Kobe's wife of nearly 20 years, Vanessa, also made a heartbreaking speech in memory of her late husband and daughter, which had the star-studded crowd -- which included Jennifer Lopez, the Kardashians, and Michael Jordan -- in tears.
"God knew they couldn’t be on this earth without each other," Vanessa said in the touching eulogy.
"He had to bring them home to heaven together. Babe you take care of our GiGi, can I got Nani, BB, and Coco. We are still the best team.
"We love and miss you booboo and Gigi. May you both rest in peace, and have fun and have fun in Heaven. Until we meet again. We love you both and miss you. Forever and always. Mummy,” she concluded.
