'Vulnerable And Scared': Selma Blair Gets Candid On Health Struggles

One year on from her glamorous appearance at the Vanity Fair Oscars Party, Selma Blair has opened up about her ongoing multiple sclerosis treatments.

A stark contrast to last year's high-glam look that came just months after she revealed she had been diagnosed with MS, Selma Blair has this year given a raw insight to a very different life as she deals with the debilitating disease.

“This is the thing. I feel sick,” she wrote on Instagram.

“This is what happens. There is no bright light of glamour. Of course. It is long nights. Almost all nights. My muscles in my face and neck are in spasm. Or so tight I can’t even find a way to stretch. And I have been trying for three hours. On the ground stretching. I have had the stomach flu. Thanks Arthur [her 7-year-old son]! And I am even more sideways now. For now. But I am not killed by it.”

Selma Blair Said She Cried With 'Relief' Over MS Diagnosis

Selma Blair has described the emotional moment she finally discovered she had multiple sclerosis.

She went on to say she was "strong enough not to be taken down", adding that she had sprained her ankle last week.

“I recover,” she said. “I stepped wrong last week. In the street. I don’t remember it happening. Or the pain. I was told. And my ankle is sprained and it makes me feel even more fragile. A simple ankle sprain.”

She continued, “I am lucky on a million counts. I know. And I am still feeling alone and vulnerable and scared about the future as a single mom".

“I’m not dying any more than anyone. I am just hurting. It feels like I am just breaking down. So there’s a truth to give to anyone else feeling this way. It’s just miserable. And scary. To feel unwell.”

Living With Multiple Sclerosis In A Post-Selma Blair World

Actor Selma Blair was diagnosed with MS in August 2018 and her emotional return to the red carpet at this year's Vanity Fair Oscar's party with the support of a walking stick made headlines around the world.

The actress went on the thank friends and followers for sticking by her in her time of need, saying, “I am so sorry. This is just me to you. In the early hours of the morning. Cause I don’t know what else to do and I want so much to do better,” she said.

"May the silver lining surround us all. And guide us out of the darkest. Thank you all for being the biggest loves.”

“I am in a slow time,” she explained. “I need to recover. I want to recover. And I don’t know what that even really means. 💛. I send you all a reassuring warmth. We all need it.”

The star was met with a flood of support by followers, fans, and celebs, including 'Cruel Intentions' co-star Sarah Michelle Gellar who commented, "Hang in there. The good news is that flu is quick", while model Christy Turlington added, "Wish we could alleviate your pain with positive thoughts and all the love and admiration we feel for you. You are such a brave woman and you inspire us all with your grit & grace".

Penelope Cruz, Bella Hadid, Jennifer Garner, Jamie King and Mia Farrow were among other celebs to send words of support to Blair.

Blair first revealed her diagnosis in October 2018, after being diagnosed in August by Dr Jason Berkley when she collapsed in front of him after discovering lesions on an MRI.

"I have had symptoms for years but was never taken seriously until I fell down in front of him trying to sort out what I thought was a pinched nerve. I have probably had this incurable disease for 15 years at least. And I am relieved to at least know. And share," she said at the time.
