'Not Enough Words To Describe Our Pain': Vanessa Bryant Speaks Out On Kobe And Gianna's Deaths
In an emotional Instagram post, Vanessa Bryant has spoken out for the first time following the deaths of husband Kobe and daughter Gianna.
Three days after the helicopter crash that claimed the lives of her husband Kobe Bryant, 41, and daughter Gianna, 13, as well as seven others, Vanessa Bryant has penned a lengthy Instagram post, thanking those who have supported her family and expressing their devastation over her and her family's immeasurable loss.
Posting a smiling family portrait featuring her late husband and daughter, the mum-of-four wrote:
"My girls and I want to thank the millions of people who’ve shown support and love during this horrific time. Thank you for all the prayers. We definitely need them. We are completely devastated by the sudden loss of my adoring husband, Kobe -- the amazing father of our children; and my beautiful, sweet Gianna -- a loving, thoughtful, and wonderful daughter, and amazing sister to Natalia, Bianka, and Capri.
"We are also devastated for the families who lost their loved ones on Sunday, and we share in their grief intimately. There aren’t enough words to describe our pain right now."
She continued to say that she "take[s] comfort in knowing that Kobe and Gigi both knew that they were so deeply loved."
"We were so incredibly blessed to have them in our lives. I wish they were here with us forever. They were our beautiful blessings taken from us too soon. I’m not sure what our lives hold beyond today, and it’s impossible to imagine life without them," she said, adding, "But we wake up each day, trying to keep pushing because Kobe, and our baby girl, Gigi, are shining on us to light the way.
"Our love for them is endless — and that’s to say, immeasurable. I just wish I could hug them, kiss them and bless them. Have them here with us, forever."
She concluded by thanking everyone for their support, as well as asking for privacy as her family grieved over their terrible losses and "navigates this new reality."
She then asked in honour of the Team Mamba family -- of which Gianna and Kobe had been involved with -- to donate to the MambaOnThree Fund set up by Mamba Sports Foundation to help support the other families affected by this tragedy.
"Thank you so much for lifting us up in your prayers, and for loving Kobe, Gigi, Natalia, Bianka, Capri and me.'
Kobe and Vanessa had been married nearly 20 years, and first met on the set of a music video where a then 17-year-old Vanessa was working part-time as a model. The pair then became engaged once Vanessa turned 18, and were married in April 2001.
Kobe and his rising basketball star daughter Gianna -- along with seven other people including the pilot, Gianna’s teammates, and their parents -- died in the January 26 crash in Calabasas, California. The group was on their way to a basketball game at Bryant’s Mamba Academy.
