Gwyneth Paltrow Is Selling Vagina-Scented Candles And Oh Dear God, No
Gwyneth Paltrow is at it again, flogging a lifestyle product that literally nobody asked for.
The latest item to be released by her Goop empire is a candle imbued with a scent that might not be your first choice of smells you want wafting through your home.
The 'This Smells Like My Vagina' candle went on sale this week on the Goop website for a cool $75 USD (about $108 AUD) and folks, we regret to inform you that it's already sold out.
The candle's bouquet is described as "funny" and "beautifully unexpected" which is how you might describe the aroma of some sour milk in your fridge that's been lurking around well past its use-by date.
The Vag-Candle also boasts a profile that is "gorgeous" and "sexy" made with geranium, citrusy bergamot, cedar absolutes, Damask rose and ambrette, begging the question, whose vagina smells like it's been doused with every product available in Perfect Potion?
Gwyn came up with the ~unusual~ candle with perfumier Douglas Little and the two apparently share a "passion for scent" according to the Goop website.
“We sit on the floor and geek out on fragrance,” Paltrow said of their collaborative process.
Needless to say, the internet has had an absolute FIELD DAY wth this latest information -- questioning why anyone would want to fork over that much money for the, shall we say, unique product.
Of course, it's not the first time Paltrow has monetised vulva-themed merch and ~wellness~ experiences.
Paltrow faced a lawsuit from the California consumer protection office over Goop's "unscientific claims" that her vaginal jade eggs would cure depression and was fined $145,000 in 2018.
She also faced criticism from gynaecologists for her promotion of 'vaginal steaming' -- a process of mixing herbs and hot liquid to "cleanse your uterus".
Doctors slammed the process as harmful, unnecessary and expensive when she first raved about the V-Steam back in 2015 with Dr Jen Gunter writing that no-one needed to interfere with their "self-cleaning ovens".
But it seems that Gwyn isn't about to abandon her favourite part of the body with the advertising for her new Netflix series, 'The Goop Lab' relying heavily on imagery that looks like she's standing in the middle of a giant vulva.
All we can say is, while Goop's latest creation might be raising eyebrows -- at least candles are something her fans can enjoy from a safe distance.
