Rod Stewart And Eldest Son Sean Charged After Physical Altercation
The veteran rock star and his son were allegedly involved in a squabble with a security guard at a swanky hotel on New Year’s Eve.
Rod, 74, and Sean, 39, were staying with other members of their family in Palm Beach, Florida, when the incident supposedly occurred.
The father and son reportedly became “agitated” with a guard after they weren't allowed into a private event being held at their resort, according to the police affidavit obtained by PEOPLE.
After being denied entry to the party, which was being held in “a children’s area”, the Stewarts "began to get loud and cause a scene, and refused to follow … instructions to leave,” the affidavit stated.
According to the affidavit, the scuffle escalated and Sean -- who is the eldest of Rod's eight children -- allegedly "shoved" the security guard, while Rod punched him in the "left ribcage area".
The charge was reportedly for “simple battery”, following a complaint from the guard. Rod later apologised for his role in the altercation.
“It was a brief misunderstanding and neither Rod nor Sean were detained,” a source familiar with the situation told PEOPLE.
"Apologies were exchanged and there were no injuries.”
Both Rod and Sean are yet to publicly comment on the situation.
Sean and his older sister Kimberly are from Rod's first marriage to former actress and model Alana Stewart, which ended in 1984.
The British musician has six other children -- Sarah, Ruby, Renee, Liam, Alistair and Aiden -- to four women: Susannah Boffey, Kelly Emberg, ex-wife Rachel Hunter, and current spouse Penny Lancaster-Stewart.
