Keanu Reeves' Girlfriend Alexandra Grant On Why She Doesn't Want To Dye Her Grey Hair
Not that she should have to explain herself...
Keanu Reeves, 55, and his current flame, artist Alexandra Grant, 46, were thrust into the headlines last month when they officially debuted as a couple at the LACMA Art + Film Gala in Los Angeles.
But rather than a celebration of our dear, sweet angel Keanu finding love, the special moment soon became awash with discussion on social media about Grant's silver locks, with many comparing her to 76-year-old Helen Mirren.
Taking a thinly-veiled jab at the unnecessary comments about her appearance, Grant took to Instagram on Friday to share a Newsweek article about a study that found that using permanent hair dyes and chemical hair straighteners can result in a higher risk of developing breast cancer compared to women who don’t use such products.
“Wow. Today’s news…” she began in her caption. “The numbers are staggering, especially for womxn of color.”
“I went gray prematurely in my early 20’s… and dyed my hair every color along the way until I couldn’t tolerate the toxicity of the dyes any more,” Grant went on to explain. “In my 30’s I let my hair turn ‘blonde.’ ”
“I love and support that every womxn can choose how she wants to look at every age. But/and, if womxn are perishing from beauty standards… then let’s talk about those beauty standards. Love to all womxn!” she concluded, using the term “womxn” which is an intersectional term that is meant to be more inclusive of transgender women and non-binary individuals.
Reeves and Grant met in 2011 collaborating on Reeves’ book Ode to Happiness, and again on his 2016 book, Shadows, in which Grant again provided the illustrations.
