Kristen Bell Reveals The 'Cher Test' That Has Defined Her Career

Accepting a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, Kristen Bell explained the secret tool she learned from Cher to help decide what projects to work on.

Accepting her star alongside her 'Frozen 2' co-star -- the wickedly talented, one and only Idina Menzel -- Kristen said she was "so grateful to be accepting this honour today on these hallowed streets where 'Pretty Woman' sold her body for money".

The tongue-in-cheek acceptance speech continued when the 'Good Place' star spoke about how "suspiciously lucky" she has been in her career, adding that she owes a lot of that to Cher.

'The Good Place' Will End With Season 4 And We're Not Forking Coping

The surprise announcement has shocked fans, but many are quietly pleased with the showrunner's decision.

The pair worked on the film 'Burlesque' together in 2010 and, during that time, Cher gave Kristen a piece of advice she's stuck with ever since.

"Cher gave me some advice I will never forget," Kristen said. "If it doesn't matter in five years, it doesn't matter."

Dubbing it 'the Cher test', Kristen went on to say that receiving her star probably didn't make the cut.

"When I'm on my deathbed I don't think I'll be thinking about this ceremony because as wonderful as this recognition feels in the moment, I know that it's only temporary," she said.

Instead, the things that are more permanent for Kristen were the times her dad would listen to her rehearsing arias, the time she heard Idina sing for the first time, when her mum dropped her off for her first audition, when Mike Shur revealed the jaw-dropping twist in the first season of 'The Good Place', or when her husband Dax Shepard asked her to play herself in a movie about their own love story.

"These are the real moments that make a career, and these are the real moments that make a life," she continued.

"This star will really only know its true value when inevitably, someone is mugged in that very spot and as they clutch their purse, the assailant screams 'Let it go!' And the victim will look up and say 'that's not even her song, you son of a bitch!'

"Only then will I know that I've truly made it."

With 'Frozen 2' releasing in cinemas on Thursday, November 28 and 'The Good Place' coming to an end in January, Bell has some major projects that definitely pass the Cher test.
