Beyonce's Father Mathew Knowles Reveals He's Battling Breast Cancer
Mathew Knowles revealed the shocking news in an interview shown in a teaser for 'Good Morning America'.
The 67-year-old music mogul, who is the father of singers Beyoncé and Solange, as well as their step-siblings Koi and Nixon, is planning to discuss his diagnosis in an upcoming appearance on 'Good Morning America'.
Speaking to Michael Strahan, Knowles will reportedly discuss how he found out he was battling the disease, with Strahan seen asking in the clip: "How was it to tell your family about the diagnosis?"
Breast cancer cases are very rare in men -- with less than one percent of cases developing in men and the National Breast Cancer Foundation reporting only one in a thousand men will be diagnosed with the disease, with most cases occurring in men aged 60 or over.
Mathew Knowles was married to Beyoncé and Solange's mother Tina Knowles for 31 years, until their split in 2009 after it was discevered he had fathered a child with another woman.
Mathew also managed Destiny’s Child which included Beyoncé, Kelly Rowland and Michelle Williams. He initially managed Queen B's solo career but she ended their professional relationship in 2011, though he maintained in an interview earlier this year that he has a great relationship with his two eldest daughters.
"I have a great relationship as a father with not just Beyoncé, but people forget I have this talented, gifted kid named Solange, who is a Grammy winner and has had a number one album," he told PAPER Magazine, adding, "People tend to think she does not exist."
Speaking further about his relationship with his children from his first marriage, he said, "It’s not a daily dialogue. Daughters tend to always gravitate to their mums more than their dads. I think it’s pretty standard in the universe, my relationship," he added.
