Natalie Portman Blasts Moby's Claims That They Dated In The Late '90s
Natalie Portman has denied that she was ever in a relationship with Moby, describing their interaction as "creepy".
The musician claimed in his new memoir -- 'Then It Fell Apart' -- that when he was 33 and Portman was 20, the young actor flirted with him in his dressing room and the pair went on to briefly date.
Portman has now labelled the claims as false, and revealed that she was 18 -- not 20 -- when she met the "Why Does My Heart Feel So Bad" producer.
“I was a fan and went to one of his shows when I had just graduated,” Portman explained in an interview with Harper's Bazaar UK online.
“When we met after the show, he said, ‘Let’s be friends.’ He was on tour and I was working shooting a film, so we only hung out a handful of times before I realized that this was an older man who was interested in me in a way that felt inappropriate.”
The 'Vox Lux' actor added that she was taken aback by Moby's recollection of their meeting in the late '90s.
“I was surprised to hear that he characterised the very short time that I knew him as dating because my recollection is a much older man being creepy with me when I just had graduated high school,” Portman said.
He said I was 20, I definitely wasn’t. I was a teenager. I had just turned 18.
Portman slammed Moby and his publisher's lack of fact-checking for the memoir, saying that the story's inclusion felt "deliberate".
"That he used this story to sell his book was very disturbing to me. It wasn’t the case. There are many factual errors and inventions. I would have liked him or his publisher to reach out to fact check.”
Moby has not yet responded to Portman's claims.
