'Real Housewives' Star 'Mama' Elsa Patton Dies, Age 84
The 'Real Housewives of Miami' star and mother of Marysol Patton, Elsa Patton, died over Mother's Day weekend.
Confirming Patton's death in a statement to Page Six, her family wrote that she was surrounded by friends and family after suffering from a "long illness".
"The family is so very grateful to the many fans and friends who have continued to ask for her and offer their prayers and best wishes," the statement continued.
Patton's daughter Marysol appeared on the 'Real Housewives of Miami' for three seasons from 2011 to 2013, with her mother making routine appearances to the point where the Bravo network greenlit a spin-off web series, 'Havana Elsa'.

While the statement did not go into more detail as to the illness Patton was battling in 2013, her daughter revealed to RadarOnline that her mother had suffered a massive stroke.
"My mother was found by her staff on the floor of her bedroom passed out," Marysol told Radar at the time. "When I got there, she was just very confused. She couldn’t talk. She couldn’t move her eyes. So we rushed her to the hospital and they found that she had had a massive haemorrhage in the base of her brain, which is also a stroke."
The family said a private ceremony would take place in Miami this Friday. She is survived by her two children Marysol and Tomas Anthony Jones, daughter-in-law and grandson. Patton's husband Donald passed away last February.
"In lieu of tears," the official statement concluded, "the family asks you to raise a glass of good champagne in honour of Elsa’s memory."
