"Things That Are Being Said Have Just Gotten Out Of Control!!!"

Britney Spears addressed her fans on Instagram after rumours surrounding the circumstances of her stay in a wellness facility began to circulate last week.

Last week, a podcast called Britney's Gram played a voicemail from a man who claimed to be a former paralegal with inside knowledge around the circumstances of the conservatorship Britney has been under since early 2008.

Following the release of this podcast, Britney fans on Twitter began demanding answers from her management and family alike, circulating emails that the singer allegedly sent to lawyers when the conservatorship was first put in place. With hashtags rolling in, some people -- including comedians and co-hosts of the Britney's Gram podcast, Babs Gray and Tess Barker -- held a "Free Britney" protest in Los Angeles, demanding a response to the allegations of what they deemed conservatorship abuse.

Today, Britney returned to Instagram with a video message addressing her fans and asking for privacy.

"Hi guys, just checking in with all of you who are concerned about me, all is well. My family has been going through a lot of stress and anxiety lately so I just needed time to deal, but don't worry, I'll be back very soon," she said in the video.

In the caption, the singer offered a more detailed response to the fandom, noting that "things that are being said have just gotten out of control!!!"

"Wow!!!" she exclaimed. "There’s rumours, death threats to my family and my team, and just so many things crazy things being said."

The singer reiterated that she was taking some "me time", as she had announced when news of her stay in the wellness facility broke and stressed that "everything that's happening is just making it harder" for her to deal with.

"Don’t believe everything you read and hear," she implored, adding: "These fake emails everywhere were crafted by Sam Lutfi years ago... I did not write them. He was pretending to be me and communicating with my team with a fake email address."

She continued: "My situation is unique, but I promise I’m doing what’s best at this moment. You may not know this about me, but I am strong, and stand up for what I want!"

While she called the fans' "love and dedication" to her "amazing", she stated that she needed "a little bit of privacy to deal with all the hard things that life [was] throwing [her] way".

"If you could do that, I would be forever grateful. Love you ❤❤❤," she finished.
