Tyra Banks Is Bringing Modelling To The Masses With A New Theme Park Called "Modelland"
Supermodel, host, actress, producer, businesswoman, author... and now, fantasy universe creator.
Is there nothing Tyra Banks can't do?
She was the first black woman in the Victoria's Secret catalogue, the first African-American model on the cover of the Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Issue, the first female model on the cover of GQ, she created the longest-running unscripted television show formats with America's Next Top Model, and now she's creating Modelland, a "first-of-its-kind experiential attraction" meant to empower people to "celebrate their own unique beauty".
Yep, she's opening a theme park. Kinda.
Calling herself the "godmother of breaking beauty barriers", Tyra says she's always been inspired by the world the Walt Disney left behind and wanted to create a legacy that will last long after she's gone.
"Modelland is going to be a place where the modeling world meets fantasy, meets entertainment, meets technology, meets retail, meets dining, meets … your fiercest best self you could ever imagine," Tyra told Variety.
"All types of beauty — men and women, young and older — are invited to transform into the dream version of themselves."
So, riding a rollercoaster in seven-inch heels with a pout? Not quite...
In an interview with Variety, Tyra explained that Modelland, built in Santa Monica, California, has been over 10 years in the making and will include "state-of-the-art interactive entertainment, creative collaborations, curated retail, dining, and special events", so, we're thinking this place will ACTUALLY be Disneyland for your Instagram page.
It's not the first time Tyra has ever talked about 'Modelland' either, in 2011, she wrote a young adult novel with the same name about a girl who attends a legendary boarding school called -- you guess it -- 'Modelland', and gets the change to join a group of the most celebrated models in the world.
Now it looks like she's is bringing that Hogwarts-meets-High-Fashion dream to life and people have... mixed feelings.
