Jordan Peele Was Flattered By Kanye's Sunken Place Tweet

The 'Get Out' director said that he was actually pretty chuffed that Kanye saw his film.

West tweeted a photo of his sterile, cavernous mansion on Twitter in April last year with the caption: " Do this look like the sunken place" in reference to the film's central metaphor about the marginalisation of black people.

Peele commented at the time that the rapper's (now-deleted) tweet had inspired him to start penning the sequel to the popular horror film.

The director has now told Rolling Stone that while he doesn't agree with West's political beliefs, he was still amazed that Ye had taken the time to watch Get Out.

“However frustrated I am with what he’s doing, the artist in me is like, ‘He saw my movie!’ ” said Peele.

“The thing about Kanye is, it feels to me that, whatever he’s going through, he’s trying to tell his truth. And there’s something magnetic about people who are trying to tell the truth," he explained.

Peele said that while he "might be wrong", his feeling is that even when he strongly disagrees with West, "he’s trying to tell his truth, and that’s more than you can say about 90 percent of people.”

The director's latest horror film -- Us-- is due out in the States on March 15, but an Australian release date hasn't been set yet.
