Kendall Jenner, Hailey Bieber And Bella Hadid Facing Subpoenas Over Fyre Fest
The models who promoted Fyre Festival may have to reveal information about the payments they received.
Fyre Media founder Billy McFarland managed to spend $11.3 million USD in the lead up to the doomed music festival and the trustee investigating Fyre's bankruptcy wants to know exactly where all that cash went.
Trustee Gregory Messer has asked a judge to subpoena the models and social media influencers responsible for promoting Fyre in the extravagant video promo, and on their Instagram Pages, Billboard reports.
Messer is attempting to subpoena IMG Models, the agency that has Fyre promoters Bieber, Hadid and Elsa Hosk on its books -- claiming that IMG received $1.2 million USD from McFarland in late 2016, early 2017.
He's also investigating the reported $250,000 USD that Jenner received for a single Instagram post promoting Fyre, and a further $299,00 USD paid to DNA Models for Emily Ratajkowski's appearance fee.
Jerry Media -- the social media behemoth that promoted Fyre -- is also facing a subpoena for a payment of $90k -- however, a rep for the company said they only received $30,000.
The disastrous music festival has been the subject of two separate documentaries -- Fyre Fraud on Hulu and Fyre: The Greatest Party That Never Happened on Netflix.
Models and influencers -- including Hadid -- were invited to the Bahamian island ahead of the festival to shoot a luxurious promo video featuring private jets, crystal clear waters and super yachts.
Their endorsements helped sell Fyre as an elite boutique festival -- a far cry from the disaster relief tents, plastic cheese sandwiches and Lord Of The Flies-style chaos that ensued.
McFarland was found guilty of fraud in 2018 and is currently serving a six-year prison sentence, with federal prosecutors describing him as a "consummate con artist".
