Kate Beckinsale Hospitalised After Ruptured Ovarian Cyst
Kate Beckinsale has been hospitalised after an ovarian cyst rupture.
The 45-year-old actress shared the news on her Instagram account, along with a hospital bed photo, taken by her mother.
“Turns out a ruptured ovarian cyst really hurts and morphine makes me cry,” she wrote. “So thankful to everyone who looked after me,” she added, with the hashtag, “#wobbly.”
Ovarian cysts form as fluid-like sacs on the ovaries and can often be painless and cause no symptoms, according to Healthline. However, symptoms including sharp pelvic pain, dizziness and rapid breathing can indicate a ruptured cyst, which can have "serious consequences " if not treated early, including internal bleeding.

One fan mocked Beckinsale for sharing the photo from her hospital bed, writing: "But first let me take a selfie".
The Underworld actress hit back, saying there was an important reason why she felt the need to update her fans so quickly.
“...I would not have posted it if we had not noticed someone in a car taking a photo of me leaving the hospital in a wheelchair,” she said of someone who had secretly filmed her.
“I have Instagram largely to have my own honest narrative and not have to always be ambushed by stories that come out that are invented, I’d prefer to say what happened than endure speculation and so I chose to share,” she added.
Beckinsale continued on to say that while it's not a "normal impulse" to share intimate details about her health, it's not "it’s not normal to be photographed in vulnerable situations by people you don’t know either".
Beckinsale isn’t the first actress to publicly share her story of suffering a burst ovarian cyst. Girls creator and endometriosis sufferer Lena Dunham underwent surgery for the same reason back in 2016.
