Chris Brown Is Suing His Alleged Rape Accuser For Defamation
Chris Brown's lawyer has filed a defamation suit against the woman who accused him of rape.
The singer was arrested in Paris this week after the 24-year-old woman -- identified in legal documents as KM -- told police that Brown sexually assaulted her in his hotel room on January 15.
Brown was released from police custody without charge and is allowed to return home to the US, but French police say the investigation is continuing.
Now, Brown is suing the woman for the "slanderous accusation", according to the complaint obtained by The Hollywood Reporter.
Brown's French lawyer Raphael Chiche is pursuing criminal prosecution, which means KM could spend time in prison and pay a hefty fine, if convicted.
According to the New York Times, a criminal defamation charge in France carries a five-year prison sentence and a $50,000 USD fine
"Chris Brown is free," the singer's French lawyer Raphael Chiche said, per TMZ. "No lawsuits were filed against him. He vigorously challenges the charges against him.
"A complaint for slanderous denunciation will be filed tomorrow with the public prosecutor of Paris," he said earlier this week.
Brown publicly responded to the woman's accusation on Instagram this week, asserting that her account was "false".
"I WANNA MAKE IT PERFECTLY CLEAR...... THIS IS FALSE AND A WHOLE LOT OF CAP!" he wrote in a now-deleted Instagram post.
"NNNNNNNNEEEEEEEEEEVVVVVVVVVVEEEEEERRRRRR!!!!!! FOR MY DAUGHTER AND MY FAMILY THIS IS SO DISRESPECTFUL AND IS AGAINST MY CHARACTER AND MORALS!!!!!" he added.
