Yesterday, 21-year-old rapper CupcakKe tweeted that she was "about to commit suicide".

She had recently tweeted about escaping an abusive situation, and was offline for many hours after tweeting about suicide.

YouTuber Elijah Daniel later tweeted that he'd been in contact with the police and that CupcakKe -- real name Elizabeth Eden Harris -- was physically okay and had been taken to hospital.

Today, CupcakKe has tweeted about the incident, apologising for making her mental health struggle public.

"I've been fighting with depression for the longest," she wrote, adding "sorry that I did it public last night but I'm okay".

"I went to the hospital and I'm finally getting the help that I need to get through, be happy and deliver great music," she wrote as an update.

"Thanks for all the prayers but please don't worry bout me," she concluded.

People magazine has reported that CupcakKe is still in hospital receiving treatment.
