Laverne & Shirley Star Penny Marshall Has Died Aged 75
The director of 'Big' and star of 'Laverne & Shirley' died on Monday night.
Penny Marshall's family confirmed that the director and actor died earlier this week from complications due to diabetes. She was 75.
From her role on The Odd Couple, Marshall's biggest role was in the Happy Days spin-off Laverne & Shirley where she played Laverne DeFazio for more than 170 episodes of the iconic series.
After dabbling in directing with episodes of Laverne & Shirley, Marshall went on to direct films like Big starring Tom Hanks, Awakenings starring Robin Williams and A League of Their Own starring Gina Davis, Hanks and Madonna.

"Our family is heartbroken over the passing of Penny Marshall," a statement obtained by TMZ said, "Penny was a tomboy who loved sports, doing puzzles of any kind, drinking milk and Pepsi together and being with her family."
Marshall was the first woman to direct a movie that grossed more than $100 million at the US box office with Big, and Awakenings -- which starred Robin Williams -- scored an Oscar nomination for Best Picture, making Marshall the second female director to have her film nominated for the award.
Marshall's brother Gary -- the creator of Happy Days -- died in 2016. She is survived by their sister Ronny Hallin and her daughter Tracy.
Fans have been posting tributes to the trailblazer on social media, remembering how her work affected their lives and careers and inspired generations.
