JK Rowling Claims Her Assistant Scammed Her To Buy Luxury Candles, Cats
The 'Harry Potter' author is suing her former assistant after discovering her credit card had been used to make unauthorised purchases.
Rowling claims that Amanda Donaldson spent £23,696.32 of her money (close to $43,000AUD) on some truly luxurious purchases.
The author has lodged legal papers at Airdrie Sheriff Court that break down some of the gifts Donaldson bought herself on Rowling's dime, the BBC reports.
Donaldson allegedly bought $1500 worth of treat's from Bibi's Bakery in Edinburgh -- a shop that specialises in gourmet macarons, and cupcakes
The former assistant reportedly spent close to $3,000 at boutique candle store, Jo Malone.
The legal papers claim Donaldson bought two cats with Rowling's credit card-- valued at $2,155.
It's unclear what Donaldson was buying at Starbucks -- but Rowling claims she ran up a bill of about $3,000 there. That's a lot of pumpkin spiced lattes.
The papers also allege that the former assistant racked up thousands of pounds on cosmetics, gift cards and Harry Potter memorabilia.
The BBC reported that Rowling claims Ms Donaldson "used her position to steal a Harry Potter motorised Hogwarts Express worth £467.56, a Harry Potter Wizard Collection worth £2231.76 and a Harry Potter Tales of Beedle The Bard Set worth £395."
Donaldson has denied misusing Rowling's money and commented that the author had "not suffered any loss and is not entitled to damages".
The case will be heard before a judge later this year.
