Cardi B Opens Up About Motherhood And That Nicki Minaj Fight

Her rise to the top has been a turbulent one, but in a recent interview, Cardi B talked about the major changes to her life in the last year and the scuffles along the way.

Cardi B has had an incredible year, from releasing "Bodak Yellow" to launching her first album Invasion of Privacy, she's performed on Saturday Night Live and broke several chart records including first solo female rapper to top the Billboard Hot 100 since 1998.

Aside from the massive, ongoing success in her music career, Cardi also found time to quietly tie the knot with Migos' Offset as well as give birth to her daughter Kulture Kiari.

In a feature with W Magazine Cardi reveals, "When I got pregnant, I was f***ing freaking out". The pregnancy shook up her first year in the spotlight with her team fretting that it could de-rail her star's exponential rise.

While Cardi continued to work throughout her entire pregnancy, even performing and twerking at Coachella, it was after Kulture arrived that the reality set in for the 25-year-old.

"People don’t really talk about what you go through after pregnancy. Like, they don’t tell you that you get stitches down there," she said, "or that your first two weeks you’re constipated. Or that you get contractions because of breastfeeding. I wasn’t expecting that."

"When Kulture was born, I felt like I was a kid again; everything was making me cry, and I needed a lot of love."

Cardi's transition into motherhood was swift, and she is passionate about her role as a parent. So passionate in fact that it led to a very public clash with fellow rapper Nicki Minaj.

The way Cardi tells it, she and Nicki came to blows after she had liked a tweet insulting Cardi's mothering ability -- something Nicki denies -- which set the "Bodak Yellow" rapper off.

"I’m a good-ass f***ing mom. So for somebody that don’t have a child to like that comment?" Cardi said, adding: "So many people want to say that party wasn’t the time or the place, but I’m not going to catch another artist in the grocery store or down the block."

Her passionate approach to family doesn't just end at defending her motherhood.

Cardi recently turned herself in to authorities following a violent brawl at a strip club where she and several friends allegedly attacked two bartenders who were rumoured to have had an affair with Offset while Cardi was pregnant.

A court date has been scheduled for later this month.
