Busy Philipps Claims James Franco Assaulted Her On 'Freaks And Geeks' Set

CONTENT WARNING: This article details sexual assault and child abuse.

In her upcoming memoir, This Will Only Hurt a Little, Busy Philipps claims that during the filming of a scene in Freaks and Geeks, she was supposed to hit Franco's character, and he responded violently.

Philipps' claims come less than a year after Franco was accused of sexual misconduct and harassment by five other women.

When Philipps hit her co-star, Franco apparently broke character and became upset with the actor. In an excerpt, Philipps writes: "He grabbed both my arms and screamed in my face, 'DON'T EVER TOUCH ME AGAIN!'"

"He threw me to the ground," she writes, "Flat on my back. Wind knocked out of me."

Describing Franco as a "f***ing bully", Philipps says everyone on the set was horrified at his actions, but that he was never punished for his outburst. Instead, she was told by co-star Linda Cardellini to report the incident to her manager, and Franco delivered an apology after being ordered to by the director and producers.

In January the Los Angeles Times published a report where five women accused Franco of sexual harassment or misconduct.

In 2014 he described social media as "tricky" when it was revealed that he had hit on a 17-year-old girl via Instagram messages, despite knowing her age the actor still attempted to meet her at a hotel.

Since the allegations surfaced, Franco has kept a low profile, though during an appearance on Late Night with Seth Meyers the actor said he wouldn't refute the allegations so as not to speak over the voices of the women telling their stories.

"There are stories that need to get out. There are people that need to be heard. I have my own side of this story," Franco told Meyers, "but I believe in these people that have been underrepresented getting their stories out enough that I will hold back things that I could say just because I believe in it that much.

"And if I have to take a knock because I’m not gonna try and actively refute things, then I will, because I believe in it that much."

Philipps recently posted on Instagram sharing the story of how she was raped when she was 14-years-old.

Her memoir This Will Only Hurt a Little will be out later this month.
