Ben Affleck Speaks About Recent Rehab Stay
Ben Affleck has released a statement after completing his most recent stay in rehab for his ongoing battle with alcoholism.
The 46-year-old actor and director said that he's recently completed a 40-day stay in rehabilitation, and is continuing with outpatient treatment.
He entered treatment on August 22 after an intervention organised by his estranged wife, Jennifer Garner, mother to the three children they share together.
At the time, TMZ reported that after Jen saw a photo of him receiving a delivery of beer and liquor, she visited his house to "beg him to get help". Their sources said that Ben "was receptive" to Jen's pleas, because "he [knew] he [needed] help".
His statement addressed the "lifelong and difficult" struggle of addiction, calling it a "full-time commitment".
Thanking those who reached out to him and shared their own stories of overcoming addiction, he wrote: "Your strength is inspiring and is supporting me in ways I didn’t think was possible. It helps to know I am not alone. "
Affleck went on to say that he hopes "down the road" to be able to "offer an example to others who are struggling.
"As I’ve had to remind myself, if you have a problem, getting help is a sign of courage, not weakness or failure," he said.
