Kanye Slammed For Pro-Trump Tweets, Rant On SNL
Kanye West has been criticised for delivering a pro-Trump rant after his 'Saturday Night Live' performance last night.
The rapper wore a ‘Make America Great Again’ cap as he told the audience that he had been “bullied backstage”.
“They said, ‘Don’t go out there with that hat on,’” he explained.
“And they say I’m in a sunken place. You wanna see the sunken place?” West asked as he stood in front of SNL cast members.
The speech was not broadcast live by NBC but has surfaced on YouTube and via comedian Chris Rock's Instagram stories.
“I’m going to put my Superman cape on,” he said as he placed his red MAGA cap back on.
“Because this means you can’t tell me what to do,” he continued.
He then explained how he reacts when people ask why he supports US President Donald Trump.
"It’s so many times that I talk to a white person about this, and they say, ‘How could you support Trump? He’s racist.’
"Well if I was concerned about racism, I would have moved out of America a long time ago," said West.
President Trump has already responded via Twitter, praising Kanye for "leading the charge".
However, the rapper has been criticised on Twitter by celebrities including Swizz Beatz for his comments.
"I'm uncomfortable with you representing someone who is blatantly hurting our people," the producer said in a video posted to Instagram.
"You've got to stop that s***."
Kanye has doubled down on his support for Trump today, uploading a post to Twitter wearing the MAGA hat again and calling for the 13th amendment (which outlawed slavery) to be abolished.
Celebrities including Chris Evans have described the post as "maddening".
Update: Kanye has clarified his tweets about his desire to "abolish the 13th amendment".
