Vanessa Kirby Speaks On Tom Cruise Marriage Rumours
"The most disconcerting thing was the people I didn’t think would believe it, did..."
Vanessa Kirby shot to international fame with her breakout role in Netflix's award-winning series The Crown.
In order to realistically age the characters, the series announced that the characters would be recast for its upcoming third season, meaning Kirby has said goodbye to Princess Margaret, a role she injected a tempestuous vulnerability into.
With her time on The Crown over as Helena Bonham Carter steps into her shoes for the next season, Kirby had set her sights on the big screen. One of her upcoming projects is the new Mission Impossible film starring Tom Cruise, Henry Cavill and Angela Bassett.
During the filming, a paparazzi snap of Kirby and Cruise began rumours that the pair were having a secret romance, with some tabloids going so far as to say Cruise wanted the actress as his next wife.
When she appeared on The View, Kirby revealed the rumours to be nothing more than that, but the stories were still floating around. Now in an interview with Marie Claire, she spoke about the wild ride of gossip.
"The most disconcerting thing was the people I didn’t think would believe it, did, and they were texting my boyfriend, asking, 'Are you okay?' I don’t think they believe anything they read now because you just can’t."
"None of it is real. To be getting married to him? Not even a snog, it was marriage."
Kirby has been in a relationship with actor Callum Turner for over two years, but the pair rarely make it in the headlines.
After the Cruise situation, Kirby had to reevaluate how she approaches her private life in the media.
"I guess you can either choose to talk about it or not. If you talk about it, it becomes interesting to people, but if you don’t, then it’s not."
