Dave Hughes Lets It Rip In Hilarious Opening Logies Speech
Hughsey. Did. Not. Hold. Back.
No one was safe -- including his own wife -- when comedian Dave Hughes took to the stage to deliver his opening monologue of the 60th TV Week Logie Awards.
In true Hughesy tradition, the Hughesy, We Have a Problem host ripped into Aussie celebrities (and a few television networks) in his hilarious Logies opener.
First up the comedian made reference to the absence of Channel 7 personalities at the Gold Coast event due to reported budget cuts, suggesting the network shouldn't have splashed out on their infamous $150,000 Sunday Night interview with Barnaby Joyce.
"Kochie, borrow some money off the Cash Cow mate," he quipped.
"It's because they gave all their money to Barnaby Joyce's baby. [Sebastian] gets $150,000 for his private education and Sam Armytage can't come to the Logies."
It didn't end there for Joyce and his partner Vikki Campion who again bore the brunt of Hughsey's wit.
"My favourite moment was when he was changing the nappy and Vikki, his partner said, 'He's surprisingly good at it'," he said.
"Is he Vikki? He's got four other kids! He's done it before!"
Next on the comedian's hit list were the Stefanovic brothers and their infamous 'Ubergate', as a sheepish Karl watched on from the crowd.
"Karl... whether it is a cab or an Uber mate, always leave a tip, then they don't have to make any extra money selling the story to New Idea," Hughsey said.
While Hughsey sung the praises of The Living Room hosts Amanda Keller, Barry Du Bois and Dr Chris Brown -- Spanish-born chef Miguel Maestre wasn't as lucky.
"He has had pressure too, Miguel has had pressure because the government is thinking about changing the rules for immigration -- so that migrants have to be able to speak English," he shot back.
