Millie Bobby Brown Deletes Twitter After Becoming Homophobic Meme
The 14-year-old was used in a series of vulgar tweets portraying her as violent, homophobic and Islamophobic.
Another day another actress forced off social media due to trolling. This time, it's 14-year-old Millie Bobby Brown.
Just weeks after Star Wars: The Last Jedi star Kelly Marie Tran deleted her Instagram due to racist and misogynistic trolling, Brown has reportedly left Twitter due to being used repeatedly in homophobic memes.
The Stranger Things star was the victim of an ongoing troll hashtag #TakeDownMillieBobbyBrown where users share fake stories -- often using homophobic slurs.
The trend seemed to start with a currently suspended account who posted a story of Brown forcibly removing a hijab.
"You don't even have a hijab on in your [profile picture]," one user responded to the tweet. "Because she ripped it off me," the account responded.
The trend would also see images of Brown shared on social media doctored to add Islamophobic, homophobic and racist remarks, often violent and deeply crass.
Again, this was targeted at a 14-year-old who had been a vocal supporter of the LGBTQ community. Her alternate account @Milliestopshate -- whose aim was to share positivity and to fight bullying -- is still active however has not been used since December 2017.
Brown's Instagram is also still active, however the comments have been turned off.
