Alice Johnson Says She Kept Photo Of Kim Kardashian In Her Bible
The pair will appear on Good Morning America tomorrow for their first joint interview.
She was instrumental in having her released from prison after 22 years, so it was an emotional moment when Kim Kardashian West finally got to meet Alice Marie Johnson, who had been serving a life sentence for a first time non-violent drug offense.
While the pair have had several telephone exchanges over the months that Kim campaigned for her freedom, they were finally able to meet face-to-face at Johnson’s Mississippi home on Wednesday.
During their first meeting, the pair filmed their first joint interview for The Today Show set to air tomorrow, where Johnson revealed that throughout the process, she kept high school photos of both Kim and her husband, Kanye West, inside her bible.
Appearing on Good Morning America last week after being granted clemency, the 65-year-old said she was forever grateful for Kim’s help.
"When Kim told me that I was being released, I started jumping, screaming, crying, and everyone else was crying," Alice said. "It was wonderful. I'm so glad that she was the one who was able to deliver the news to me. It was a perfect ending."
Kardashian West was even seen bringing the great-grandmother up to date on the latest technology, showing Johnson how to use face filters on Snapchat.
“Alice has never used filters before so I’m showing her the ropes. Love you Alice!” Kim said in one of the videos.
It comes just weeks after the 36-year-old met with Trump and his son-in-law and adviser, Jared Kushner, to discuss Johnson’s pardon. Upon her release on June 6, the White House released this statement:
"Ms. Johnson has accepted responsibility for her past behaviour, and has been a model prisoner over the past two decades. Despite receiving a life sentence, Alice worked hard to rehabilitate herself in prison, and act as a mentor to her fellow inmates."
Prior to the official announcement of her commutation, Johnson opened up about Kim’s help to CNN, writing, “Some refer to prison as a place where hope dies. Some days I’ve found that to be almost right. Each time that I’ve come close [to giving up], God has restored my faith.”
“So when the unlikely voices of Kim Kardashian West and Jared Kushner came together to shine a spotlight on my case, I could only thank God, for he works in mysterious ways.”
We love a happy ending!
